1994 GMC C1500 V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

i broke the timming chain on my surban well i got the old gears off but cant get the new ones on is there a trick ? and is there a chain guard cause i found damaged metal parts someone said its the cam shim but it looked to be in place.

put the chain on the bottom gear and then the top gear, then install the top gear on the camshaft.

put the old gear back on if you have to. check for burrs on crankshaft but if the old gear fits on and its ok then leave it on.*** i have replaced a ton of these timing chains and i never replace the lower gear.
