1990 GMC C1500 V8 All Wheel Drive Automatic new miles

i'm building a 1930 medal A hotrod. i've put a 90 5.7l tbi chevy motor in it. i'm thinking of blocking off the egr system and wondering the pros/cons.the engine has open headers. also is this egr system mech or elecvtrical?

If it was me I'll just use a template over the EGR valve
