My wife's SUV has been getting the B1342 code, it is becoming more frequent. I have the Auto Enginuity scan tool with the total Ford Bundle, the only RSC/ABS code is B1342. I set up the live data meter screen to monitor wheel speeds, accel, yaw and steering angle. Was driving and lost communications to laptop. Stopped, reset everything, and noticed the steering angle was like 211 degrees when pointed straight it had been at basically zero before communications dropped, immediately upon reaching speed, the RSC alarm went off.
I stopped, cleared the code, restarted everything and the angle was basically zero again. Drove until I lost communications again, and no problem. Stopped with the wheel straight, again restarted everything, and it was showing -12. Again, upon accel B1342. Stopped with communications still working, and showing steering angle at -12, reset everything, cleared code, restarted, hadn't touched the wheel, and it came up as basically zero, drove all way home with out alarm. Could it be the steering angle sensor? Or just the ABS, ECU not reading data right?

Thanks!

Good morning,

The B1342 is for the A/C system. I attached a picture of the code for you.

As far as the angle sensor, it should read 0 at center point steering.

That is set with an alignment. The shop should verify center point steering before setting the final toe in.

Clearing the code does nothing. It will default to zero in the beginning until it reads live data

B1342 is under the ABS module, " internal ECU fault discontinue driving and see dealer, ABS control module"

That would be correct.

You will need a new module with the exact part number from your old one and have it programmed to your car for it to work.

Removal and Installation

Notice: Electronic modules are sensitive to electrical charges. The Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) module can be damaged if exposed to these charges.

Note: When installing a new ABS module, it must be configured (using vehicle as-built data) and calibrated. Follow the scan tool directions for the calibration procedures. For module configuration, refer to Programmable Module Installation in Information Bus. See: Information Bus > Programming and Relearning

1. Remove the Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU). For additional information, refer to Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) See: Hydraulic Control Assembly - Antilock Brakes > Removal and Replacement.

2. Remove the 4 screws and the ABS module.
To install, tighten to 2 Nm (18 lb-in).

3. NOTICE: Make sure that the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) module is properly seated to the Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) and that the torque of the ABS module screws is correct, or damage to the components can occur.

To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Why do I only get the code when the steering angle is way off from zero while driving with scan tool monitoring it? If the trip starts with the sttering angle at zero for straight ahead travel, it will be completed with out the code and alarms. However if the angle is way off, upon starting the car, it trips very quickly. I'm just trying to understand how the module is bad only part of the time.

That is internal issue with it reading.

The ABS has several jobs and there are different parts of the module for each control.

Most likely in the programming software.

Can it be reloaded with as built data? Not sure if my scan tool will do that.

No, you need special equipment for that and I doubt it will fix the issue.

You need to replace it and have it programmed.

Is that dealer specific, or something that goes through the OBD port that a mechanics shop would have?

Any shop with the right scan tool can perform this.

Yes, it goes through the data link connector.
