Transmission problem
1992 Geo Storm 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual

my GEO suddenly has a shifting problem, the stick will move up and down but wont go over to the 3rd, 5th, rev area then as your moving the shifter up and down all of a sudden it will just go over to that side of the shifting pattern, or will just stop going into any gear but if I go under the hood and grab the linkage on top of the trans i can shift with not too much effort, when I shift it by hand into 1st it sounds like something is hitting the top of the bellhousing.

Check the bushings in the shifter itself.They can wear out causing the shifter not to move over far enough to get some gears.Also check thebushings where the shifter attaches to the trans
