Ignition locks in lock position

The ignition will lock up in the lock position even moving the steering wheel back and forth doesn't easily help. I'm afraid i'll break the key off if I turn it too hard. Thus, i've been leaving the car turned off in the accessory position but this morning had a dead battery but i've been doing this for about a week.
