You followed the correct procedure for TDC#1.
You will have to check fuel pressure with a mecahnical gauge, and injector firing with a noid light.
It is also possible #2 has a bad plug or wire.
If CAT is clogged, you can unbolt it from exhaust pipe and visually inspect it for overheating.
