1993 Geo Prizm catyltic converter glowing red

The car lost power. Found the front cat failed. Hole burned through it and the secound cat clogged. I replaced the cats thinking the loss of power was due to the clog in the #2 cat. When I test drove it it still did not have the power and it seemed to be idling low and rough. When I stopped and looked under the hood the cat I had just replaced was glowing red hot.
where should I look next?

Check firing order
make sure all cylinder firing and no unburned gas getting to the cats
check fuel pressure regulator vacuum hose if full of gas
check muffler if clogged
check timing
