1993 Geo Prizm 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

Hello, I am working on a 1993 Geo Prism with automatic (transaxle) that idles and revs fine in park, but only idles in gear. The problem is once you put the vehicle into drive or low gear you have to just barely touch the accelerator pedal to begin a forward motion. Pushing the pedal further than 1/4 to 1/2 inch the vehicle shutters and only revs. Eventually you build speed, but takes about 5 mins to get to 70 mph. The following have been performed: replace the fuel pump, replace fuel filter, replace throttle body, oil and filter change, spark plug change, transmission fluid and filter change. The trans filter and fluid change seemed to provide the most successful results by bringing the car to 35 mph after 1/8 of a mile. Any help would be great.
