Before you pull it out-Make a mark on the distributor flange/base and the engine and also mark where the rotor is pointing-to-when you set the distributor back in it has to all line up with your markings.
Or you can put no.1 piston on its compression stroke/TDC align marking at crank pulley/scale to 0/TDC then remove the distributor. If this is done correctly with piston no.1 on compression stroke-the rotor should be pointing directly to no.1 cap tower
