Gear shifter moves freely but won't change gears.

The floor gear shifter will move out of Park while the engine is running and go through all of the gears, but it never changes from Park. The gear shifter just moves without resistance.

Then the shifter linkage is disconnected or you have something broken. Have you checked that?
