Welcome to 2CarPros.
It sounds like the shifter linkage has come apart. If it kept moving when you placed it in park, then in reality, it isn't in park. Plus, if you turn the key and the starter doesn't engage, it is between gears.
Since it now won't move from park, (don't laugh) make sure the brake lights are working. Power to the park lock actuator is received through the brake light switch.
If they work, you need to remove the cup holder and inspect the shift cables for damage or an adjustment issue. Here are the directions for adjustment. The attached pics correlate with the directions.
Shift Cable Adjustment
1. Set the parking brake.
2. Remove the cup holder.

3. Lift and unlock the shift cable retainers.

4. Push the shifter neutral lock clip. Move the shifter slightly in order to center the lock clip.
5. Ensure that the transmission is in neutral.

6. Press and lock the shift cable retainers.

7. Pull the shifter neutral lock clip to its original position.
8. Install the cup holder.

Now, it's been awhile, but I believe there is a manual override near the shifter or is visible once the cup holder is removed. That will allow the shifter to move. Make sure the parking brake is on before doing this.
Let me know if any of this helps or if you have other questions.
Take care,
Joe
