So when i change gears the gear shift locks like it suppose to, so i do not change gears by mistake, but today the gear shift will not lock. so if i bump it the car will change gears.

The detente that locks the shifter in place sounds as if it is not working, what happens when you push the release button? you may have to pull the shifter apart and check out why it is stuck up or being held in the free position.
