Last night I was driving on the freeway and my gear was reading (D-drive) as it should. Well as I was driving for a period of time I do happen to look at my speed and where it shows the gear functions; it’s blank. I immediately pull over to the median and put it park, still not reading proper gear. I turn the car off for a couple of seconds and turn back on and it’s reading? That’s dangerous especially in a lot of traffic, which can cause a serious accident.

Hello,

It sounds like you have a fuse (module 1, tcu 1 tcu 2) out or the gear range sensor/switch is not working. To be sure here is a guide to help you check the fuses and the transmission wiring diagrams so you can see how the system works and how to check the sensor out:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-a-car-fuse

Check out the diagrams (below). Please let us know what you find. We are interested to see what it is.
