Gear indicator display is not working

The truck shifts in and out of gear perfectly, but the display on the dash (the orange needle) doesn’t move from p-n-d-1-2 it is stuck a 1.

Sounds like the indicator's spring is broken or disconnected. If you look under the dash on the left side of the steering column, you'll see the cable that pulls the pointer down to "L" when you move the shift lever. A spring pulls the pointer back up to "P". I suppose the cable could be frayed too and not sliding freely in the casing. I've never run into either situation as this assembly has an extremely low failure rate. As such, I'd be comfortable finding a good used one from a salvage yard.

Here's the instructions for replacing the assembly. Please let me know what you find.
