The vehicle is not moving when engaged in drive or reverse, it’s just making the same sound that it makes when it’s in park. No sound change to show that it has been engaged into drive or reverse its also showing hold.

Welcome to 2CarPros.

Have you checked the transmission fluid to make sure it isn't extremely low? Also, if there is no change in sound, it can be a number of things such as a faulty transmission control module, a range switch, bad or disconnected torque converter (which I feel would make some noise), a faulty pressure sensor and the list goes on.

The first thing I would recommend is to have the computer scanned to identify diagnostic trouble codes. You will have to get a scanner or someone who has a scanner that can reads transmission codes. If you could do that, it will make things much easier.

Just fyi, here is a quick video showing how a scanner is used:

Let me know if you can have that done or if you have other questions.

Take care,
Joe
