Transmission will not go into park until the ignition is off

When you say it will not go into park do you mean the gear selector will not go into park or the gear selector goes into park and the car keeps rolling?

Gear selector will not go into park unless car is turned off.

There is a shift interlock cable that sounds like is misadjusted are is not working right here is a guide to show you what to look for so you can find the problem.
