Gauges started working again

194,000 MILES • 3.3L • 6 CYL • 2WD • AUTOMATIC

None of the gauges worked including; the digital odometer/trip, gear selector and auto door locks. Today everything started working again. Auto locks lock when started but don't unlock when.shut off.what is the cause?
