gas tank cover

check engine light was on. Hook up a computer and was told gas tank cover. change gas tank cover and the rubber keeps coming out. Pushing it in back and it keeps coming out every couple of days. what is the problem?

You need to know the exact diagnostic fault code number to get the accurate description. Fault codes never say to replace parts or that one is bad. They only indicate the circuit or system that needs further diagnosis. If testing or observation shows the gas cap is not sealing properly, the fix is to replace the cap. Its seal or O-ring is not a separate serviceable part.
