Gas or exhaust

My car smells like gas or some kind of exhaust inside the vehicle. The car burns a lot of gas. Lately the smells have gotten stronger and every time I drive the car, especially turning on the heater.

Sounds like you have an exhaust leak near the front of the car, and the fumes are being drawn in through the fresh air inlet. If the leak is not obvious, run the engine, then watch underneath while a helper blocks the tail pipe with the bottom of his shoe, or a block of wood.

Also check the bottom of the rear edge of the hood. There should be a rubber seal running from side to side to prevent engine fumes from finding their way into the fresh air intake in front of the windshield.
