I had multiple plug ins to the lighter for a long time. recently both the lighter in the dash and the lighter in the center panel between the seats burnt out. I took everything out and got someone to replace the fuse in the dashboard under the steering wheel and it worked for a few seconds but burnt out again when i tried to plug in a simple phone plug in. it is a 20 small yellow fuse. how do i keep it from burning out again? A different number fuse? Something else?

Hi,

Never increase the amperage of a fuse. It can cause a fire. The fuse is designed to fail before the wiring does. A heavier amperage fuse can allow the wire to overheat and can lead to a fire.

Now, does the fuse blow regardless of which power outlet is used? If it does, the problem could be the phone plug.

Try this. Use a different component to plug in and test the circuit. See if the fuse fails again.

Let me know.
