I am restoring the car listed above and the fuel gauge isn't working. so I dropped the tank to check sending unit. And as I am emptying the gas from tank I realized there is a lot of large loose objects moving around. I can see a large metal ring that looks like it was attached around where the pressure release valve is. Does it need to be rewelded in place and if so how should I go about it?

Hi,

I do not recommend welding anything on the fuel tank. As far as the part you found loose, is it possible for you to take a pic of it and upload it for me to see?

Because of the model year, there is very limited information in the manuals, so hopefully, I will be able to identify the part to determine how to fix it.

Let me know.

I'm 99% sure it's supposed to be attached to the underside of the top of the tank. As a pressure release chamber.

Hi,

I have to be honest. I've never seen one like that in a tank before. I asked the site owner to take a look and see if he recognizes it.

I will watch for his reply.
