Car was originally diagnosed as fuel pump but that has been replaced, fuse is okay and swapped the relays from the fan control as they are the same, to see if it could be that and still no go. Now there is absolutely no power getting to the fuel pump itself and the gauge has stopped working. seems to be an intermittent power failure as when the battery charged the fuel pump kicked in and it started no problem. left it running for ten minutes turned off ignition then it wouldn't start again. fuel pump kicked in the first time and power was getting to the pump when it was voltage tested but now it is dead.

Hello,

This sounds to me like you have got one or more dead cells in your battery. Take a multi-meter and get a voltage reading across the battery terminals. Here is a link if you are unfamiliar with how a multi-meter works:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-use-a-voltmeter

Your reading should be 12.6 Volts MAX to 12 Volts MIN. Please get back to us with what you find out.

Thanks,
Alex

Thanks for the reply. I managed to trace the fault back to a dodgy connector inside the tank on the sender unit. I've told my friend that if it happens again he'll need a new sender unit. cleaned the connections with a pointy tip screwdriver and tested for over an hour whilst I did the other repairs he wanted. all seems good now.
