Hello. I have few problems with my 79 Cadillac seville. Today I wanted to clean fuel tank in my car and see how looks fuel pump because I heard something works very loud when the car was running.I think it may be fuel pump. I take off fuel sending unit from the fuel tank and saw the sending unit is in bad condition ( I attached pictures) and there weren't fuel pump in the end of this fuel sending unit. I saw in the ACdelco browser they recomend EP184 fuel pump to 79 seville.
Before I bought this car the car get many new parts, engine was rebuilt, New Edelbrock carburetor was added and two exhaust pipes. Car now have many more horse power thank in production day. Here are my questions. Why there weren't fuel pump in the end of this fuel sending unit and car runs good? Do I still should put this electric fuel pump EP184 recomend from ACDelco after these many mechanic changes or should I only replace this sending unit? I will be very very thankful for any help. Sorry for my english. Thank You very much.

Your car likely has a mechanical fuel pump bolted to the engine.

You didn't mention which type engine you have (Chevrolet 5.7 or Oldsmobile 5.7), but the mechanical fuel pump [it that's what yours has] is located on the passenger side, front corner of the engine, near the bottom (follow the fuel line from the carburetor, down to the fuel pump).

If it indeed has a mechanical fuel pump then that is why it runs even though there is no fuel pump at the end of the sending unit [it has been replaced with a mechanical fuel pump].

Let me know what you find.
