fuel pump and gas gauge stopped working

Fuel pump stopped working without any prior problem and the gas gauge also quit working. is this a relay problem if both quit at once?

the relay only effects the pump and only at certain times. the gas gauge needs to be checked for a gauge or sending unit problem. if they both quit at once check wires by tank they may have been cut somehow.
