So, my car started starting rough, and by that, I mean shaking really bad like it’s going to blow up or something. I’ve tested my fuel injectors, spark plugs, and coil packs, everything is working fine. I don’t know much about cars but it kind of sounds like it’s not getting enough gas. I took my back seat off to look at my fuel pump and noticed that there was a crack on the top. I read that it could be from a bad fuel filter not operating correctly and building up pressure. I have a trip coming up on the first, so I need my car. Any tips or advice or anything would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Also, I can’t find my Schrader valve to test fuel pressure. So I’m kind of stuck.

Hello,

With these D17 Honda engines it is difficult to carry out a fuel pressure test without any expensive special tools.

On your vehicle the fuel pressure regulator and fuel filter are built into the fuel tank, part of the in-tank pump

The cheapest way will be to access the in-tank pump, disconnect the outlet pipe. Connect your pressure gauge directly to the pump outlet. At cranking you should get 40-47 psi, 2.7-3.2 bar. See image below

A good video on how to replace the in-tank pump:

Hope this helps.

Cheers, Boris

Just to jump in on this one because I have seen this a couple times.

It is normally one of two things. Either fuel pressure as you are suspecting or a vacuum leak.

Here is a guide that will help with checking the pressure because that is going to be the definitive way to tell if you need to replace the pump:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-fuel-system-pressure-and-regulator

You are correct that you do not have a valve for this engine. You need to separate the line shown below and then add in a tester. You can get one of these kits from most any parts store or they are all over the internet.

If the fuel pressure is okay, then we need to move onto the engine and check for a vacuum leak.

Here is how to check for this:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-use-an-engine-vacuum-gauge

I would suggest we start with these two things before we determine if we need to replace the pump.

Let us know what you find with this.

Thanks
