fuel filter replacement

I have a 2012 Chevy Sonic and every time I fill up with gas it won't kick over and run unless I feed it gas. I looked it up and realized I can't change the fuel filter and I also checked the fuel pumps and hope that's not the solution to my problem. Please any and all suggestions and input is welcomed and greatly appreciated. Thanks
