My fiance bought this van he doesn't know a lot about vehicles but he tries to learn. it has been stalling while driving. there is a wrong oil cap on it it only holds a couple dollars of gas at a time. if we do stall when you put gas in it we have to wait sometimes 45 minutes for it to start. what could be the problem please?

Hi,
Do you mean the fuel tank turns off the pump while pumping, regardless of how much fuel is in the tank? If that is the case, we have a vent issue which could also be causing the vehicle to stall when driving. If the vent control valve isn't responding or something is plugged, you won't be able to put fuel into the tank. The air in the tank has to go somewhere before fuel can replace it.

Next, I need to know if the check engine light stays on when driving. I suspect there is an EVAP code stored in it.; EVAP stands for evaporative emissions control system. This is what prevents fuel vapors from entering the atmosphere. If you can have the computer scanned, it should provide me with the direction I need to help you better diagnose the issue. Otherwise, it will be a hit and miss, and I don't want to recommend things that may not fix the issue.

I suggest having the computer scanned. Most parts stores will scan it for free. Have that done and let me know what codes are found.

Take care,
Joe
