Put in a new pump assembly cause the fuel level was not showing. I went to put some fuel and I saw a spot underneath the car. Is there a common issue with these? No fuel on top from the hoses around the pump.

Hi,

There really isn't anything common as far as a fuel leak. If you are seeing it under the vehicle, is it near the fuel tank? Have you inspected the fuel lines?

Let me know where you are seeing the leak. Also, let me know what size 4 cylinder this is. It came with a 2.0L, 2.4L, or a 1.4L turbo.

Let me know.

Joe

2.4l, right under the tank where the heat shield is. All lines on top at the pump are dry.

Is there any evidence of it leaking down the side of the tank? When you installed the new pump assembly, was the rubber gasket properly aligned and have all seven of the retainer (see pic 1 below) notches locked? Is the fuel pump module in the same position as the original one was? See pic 2. Those are the directions for removal. The three items need to be in the same position as when they were removed for the fuel level to read properly and to properly seal.

Let me know.

Joe

Hi,

If that is the case, check to see if any steel lines have rusted and started leaking since they were moved around. Other than that, or a rubber hose leaking, it could have damage to the tank. They are plastic, so rust isn't an issue.

Let me know.

All the lines on top are plastic so rust is out. I'll jack it up and see. Thing is its sitting at less than a quart of gas, nit I saw it parked it had a big spot under it which took days, so it can't be coming from above.

Hi:

The plastic lines should connect to steel under the vehicle. Check them as well. Let me know what you find. I'm interested in knowing.

Lol. The previous owner had deleted the muffler. He cut it about 2 feet away from the tank. Hot air from muffler was blowing straight on the heat shield covering the tank. The heat shield got so hot and made an imprint on the tank, eventually a small piece melted and made a hole. Avoided a fire
