First, check to determine if there are any diagnostic trouble codes stored. They will help diagnose the issue. Here is a link that shows how it is done. All you need is a paper clip on this system.

Next, if it runs and then shuts off, either you are losing spark or fuel pressure. It isn't uncommon for a bad crankshaft sensor to do what you described. Take a look through this link::

Also, here are links that show how to check fuel pressure and for ignition spark. You should do this when the engine dies and doesn't restart.
