Fuel gauge not working properly

Why does my fuel gauge show different miles used when out of fuel?

Hi again PCULQUI,

Do you mean the distance to empty number on your fuel gauge? If so, this is just a calculation based on a predetermined algorithm. That means it is not going to be completely accurate because it is not measuring the amount of fuel left and telling you how many more miles you have.

Or

Are you saying that when your tank is empty it doesn't have the same amount of miles driven on each tank of fuel? If this is the case, that is because each time you fill the tank, you are not driving in the exact same style or the exact same roads at the exact same speeds. All of this will effect fuel mileage so you are not going to get the same amount of miles traveled on each tank of fuel.
