Recently my sister started having issues with her vehicle. At first it started not wanting to take off from a stop. She would push the gas and it would barely move on the take off. Then she would have trouble with it not wanting to start. Sometimes she'd go to leave and it would start right up and others it take a few tries. Then the other day she went to pick up her daughter and was heading home. Stopped at a stop light went to take off it did it's hesitation thing and shut off. She fired it right back up and managed to get it off the road and dead stick for real this time. Got it towed to the house was going over it with a buddy and we realized there is no humming of the fuel pump when the key is turned. When he would gentle shake the fuel lines when id crank her over it wants to start. With that does it sound like I am replacing a fuel pump? On the fuel filter I am getting conflicting information. Is there a fuel filter on this vehicle listed above? If so where is that thing hiding?

Good morning,

The fuel filter is part of the fuel pump. There is no external filter in this truck.

FUEL FILTER

The fuel filter is contained in the fuel sender assembly inside the fuel tank. The paper filter element traps particles in the fuel that may damage the fuel injection system. The filter housing is made to withstand maximum fuel system pressure, exposure to fuel additives, and changes in temperature.

Yes, it sounds like you need the pump replaced.

Thank you very much. Do you have any recommendations where to go for the part? I'll be ordering online and like to stick with original parts. Maybe she will listen to an expert because she won't listen to me. She likes running her vehicle all but bone dry all the time. How hard is it on the pump to run it so low on gas so much?

Running low on fuel is hard as it overheats the pump and causes it to fail.

I attached a pump from rock auto. It is the AC Delco original pump. I doubt you will find a better price.

Awesome! Rock auto is usually where I order from. Just curious if you knew of something better. Thank you very much again.
