My car was taken to Ford Service center for oil change and it needed the short block change, when I got the car back I got it with poor fuel economy. Also before it got taken to the shop a full tank used to be at 275 miles and now that I just filled up the tank it’s at 405 miles. What are the reasons for this to be happening?

Hi,

I need to better understand. You indicated before repair it got 275 miles to a tank, and now you're at 405. Did the mileage improve or am I reading it wrong?

If it is the opposite of what I described, a short block could take some time to break in. It is a new engine. Also, is the check engine light staying on when the engine is running?

Let me know. Also, let me know if you have other questions.

Take care and God Bless,

Joe

That’s correct it improved, but now I got poor gas economy I burn about 3 miles of gas in a mile or less. And no the check engine light is not on. I get is a new engine but does this usually happen? Poor gas economy after a brand new engine? Should I give it some time before contacting the shop again? I’m afraid that they messed something else up and now I’m going to get the check engine light.

It seems odd, but a new engine is tight. Here is what I suggest: Contact the dealer and let them know your concern. Then I recommend driving it a couple hundred miles and see if things change.

Let me know if that helps.
