I car was running fine one day gas gauge stop working. I went to my local repair shop and they said it was the sending unit In the tank. The cost of repair is around $300.00 Dollars. I decided to replace it myself. A very simple process. I purchased a new sending unit and removed my old fuel pump and installed It on the new sending unit and replaced it. now I turn the ignition on and I can hear the pump run so I proceed to start the car and it starts, but it only runs for two or three seconds and then it dies. I checked all the fuses and relays all were good, I disconnected the positive cable to reset the alarm I still have the same problem. What else could It BE? Remember The car ran fine before repair. Ignition switch maybe? Thanks Tom.

Check fuel pressure, auto store may rent you a gauge

Ever change Mr. Fuel Filter?

Runs after the cranking for 3 seconds OR it only runs during the cranking?

Do this outside away from things you like and always have a fire extinguisher near by when you work on your rig. Can you make it run longer with a squirt, here and there of starter fluid (Not overboard soaking, just enough to nurse it to run/ cough/ spit/ sputter for a longer time period) Kinda to let us know whether it needs fuel or maybe spark (ignition) is getting lost after your 3 seconds

The fuel pressure would be a nice thing to know, before and during it running

I'd say the next thing to do is check the fuel pressure (with a gauge)

Can't drive very far in 60 seconds!

It sounds like something got messed up with the wiring at the tank. Does the gauge work now?

Tom, have you confirmed that the fuel pressure is within the manufacturer's specs? It sounds like you get pressure to start it, but then it's lost. As was mentioned, it could be a clogged line, bad connection at the wiring... Also, make sure you didn't switch the return and supply lines.
