After reading your other posts as well I'm thinking you have a problem with the transmission being in the correct gear. The stiff shift lever and not shifting properly sounds like it is not going into gear fully. There are two linkage areas that can bind, the shift interlock cable that moves the steering lock and the transmission selector cable itself. Both can be lubricated with a silicone lube that may free them up. The easier way to do that on the shifter end is to pull the console out so you can get to that end of both cables. That end is the one that commonly gets corroded as it protrudes through the floor into a cup that bolts to the bottom of the transmission tunnel and those are not sealed very well.
