My check engine light came on I went get the diagnostic code. The code was stating to check the fuel cap. I got a new fuel cap but the check engine light is still on.

Hello,

There are two ways to clear the Malfunction Indicator Lamp[MIL] or "check engine" light. The first, and preferred method, is to clear the MIL with a scan tool, the same one used to pull the code from the Data Link Connector[DLC]. The second, and less approved method because it wipes out the Keep Alive Memory[KAM] and your vehicle will have to relearn some things[through normal driving], is to disconnect your vehicle's negative battery clamp from the negative battery terminal for at least 5 minutes, then connect it back to the terminal. Both of these techniques work, but, again, the former is preferred to the latter. I hope this helps.
