I have just put a liter of petrol in my diesel car. When I realized I put forty two liters of diesel in plus maybe a liter that was already in the tank. Will this be okay.

Not much chance this will cause a problem. Gas requires a spark to ignite, so it will not burn until the diesel starts to burn. However, gas will self-ignite from the real high temperatures created by the real high compression in a diesel engine. You have the gas diluted enough that it should not cause a problem. The other issue is diesel lubricates the injectors while gasoline does not. You will have enough diesel going through the fuel system to provide the needed lubrication.
