I do not live in the United States. I don't know technical terminology in English very well, but I use a dictionary. I have a very old car (VIN 1G3NL5438PM025097). I am planning to buy and replace a steering rack. I have found a suitable steering rack. But it says that it is for a car with PERFORMANCE front suspension. And my car is equipped with "soft ride suspension (option FE1)". Please tell me if it is the same thing?
(GM 26046148 - fits my car, but not on sale. I found a Cardone 22-137)

Hi,

As far as your question, there is a difference, but it is primarily related to the suspension and not the steering rack. However, in this case, it makes a difference. There are actually 4 different options.

The part number you provided is for a soft ride with variable speed assist. You need to get one specific for that vehicle. See pics below for the different part numbers.

Let me know if this helps.

Take care,

Joe

So, which steering rack should I choose? With variable steering (NV7) and an acceptable suspension? I mean analogs.
Will Cardone 22-137 (with performance suspension, with variable effort steering) or Master Pro 103-0129 (without performance suspension, with variable effort steering) for example work? Or another one?

Hi,

Based on the OEM part number you originally supplied; the system is soft-ride with the variable assist. I don't know the Cardone part numbers, but based on what you provided above, Master Pro 103-0129 should be what is needed.

Let me know.
