I went to a mechanic to get a diagnosis of my oil leak problem. I have huge puddles of oil whenever I turn my car on and let it sit. He explained to me my front seal cracked. As I am on Google searching for the cost of this type of repair (his shop doesn’t do these particular repairs) I keep seeing front crankshaft seal. He never used the word crankshaft. So I am not sure if that is the service I am looking for. Is front seal the same as front crankshaft seal? And how much would that normally run for repairs?

Hello, I'm Danny.

The oil control seal is also known as the crankshaft seal. By looking at repair guides it shows the job to fix as taking 1.1 hours repair and $14.00 for the part. Depending on your area and the type of shop you are going to, most labor rates are roughly $100.00 an hour labor. I've attached a picture below of the seal and circled it in red. Hope this helps and thanks for using 2CarPros.
