I cannot get the drive axle to sit in the hub assembly all the way after I tighten it all the way down was there was about an eighth of an inch gap in the back. If I loosen up the three bolts I can press it all the way in but once I tighten them it comes back out.

Did you replace the hub or axle? Is there a change you got the wrong parts? Can you please upload picture so we can see what is going on?

It looks like the spines or relief margin is not cut in the new hub. I would remove the hub and look at the old old next to the new one to see if the machine work is correct. If you take pictures of both I can help look as well.

I checked the other side and it looks the same way, but I went a head and replaced both axles and I am still getting a loud rumbling sound.

This could be the tire pattern. If you can take a picture of it I can tell for sure. Also make sure the noise is not coming from the other side. Try jacking the car up and put it on jack stands then start the engine and put it in drive and get under it and listen for where the noise is coming from, please be careful of the rotating tires they are dangerous.

Please report back.
