My engine is making a noise it’s like coins in a jar type of noise and I’ve checked the transmission fluid and the engine oil and they both are fine. I took it to the shop and I thought it was something with the brakes but that doesn’t make sense because it’s when I could start the car not when I push on the brakes, any ideas on what it could be?

Hi Alexis,

Unfortunately, I am not sure what this could be. Can you give a little more detail on when it does this or better yet, get a recording of the noise and post it here. That may help us get on the same page. Thanks

Sadly on a cold start the sound would be much louder, but this isn’t it on a cold start. It is the kind of higher ringing you can hear.

Unfortunately I can't make it out to well. But does it make the noise if you take the serpentine belt off and start the engine?

I do not have the tools to do that and wouldn’t want to do it myself in fear of breaking something. I’ll give it a cold start in the morning so you can hear the sound more.

Okay. That is better. I would have the belt removed and see if it does it. That sounds like a bearing to me. The other thing you can do is spray some WD40 on the pulleys as they are spinning and see if it quiets down. This will indicate a pulley is failing and the noise is the metal on metal of the bearing.
