Front end noise

Getting a knocking sound in the front end when I am driving and breaking at lower speeds. Service 4x4 light has come on a few times but if i turn the car off and restart the light goes away.

Pretty sure it is a shock or wheel bearing. Would a blown front shock cause a knocking sound while driving and breaking? Dont feal anything just hear it. Scanning for codes wont help if its 1 of these 2 things will it?
