I have come to the conclusion that my 4x4 is not working due to something in the front differential ( I have already tested the electrical before removal of the differential).
On the right side of the diff the actuator pushes a ring connecting two gears. My question is: how do I remove the gear that is inside the differential?

So in case some one stumbles upon this post looking for a similar answer I should share my results.
The gear shown above is connected to a shaft and should just slide out. Mine was twisted like some was trying to ring out a towel then snapped and wedged itself inside.
A couple new parts, rebuild the diff and it's good to go.

Oh. And I got it out by welding a bit to the gear and using a slide hammer to pull it out
