Limp mode

I was not paying attention and hit a bump on a forest service dirt road going 20-25 miles a hour. It was a pretty violent bump and my truck started slowing down until I shut it off. It is stuck on limp mode going 5-10 mph and wont go over 1,000 RPM's. Check engine light, Service Stabilitrack and Service Traction Control light are all on. When I turn on the truck it is louder than usual and the engine shakes and it gets stuck at 1,000 RMP's even when idling. If I press the gas pedal while on drive it wont go over 1,000 RPM's and wont go faster. Gas tank is full. Can anyone help me I am not sure what is going on? Thanks

Hi,

Based on the lights that are on, the idea that it's louder, and it won't rev, what really needs done is to have the can bus system scanned for diagnostic trouble codes. CAN stands for control area network. It ties all computer and modules together.

If you do this, it will indicate specific codes. The codes then are used to help diagnose the issue.

Because there are a few things happening, this is where I recommend starting. If you can, have it done and let me know the codes that are retrieved. That way, I'm not sending you on a wild goose chase. LOL

Other than that, confirm none of the connectors are damaged to the ABS wheel speed sensors. Also, if the engine seems louder, check to see if there is an exhaust leak. I don't know how hard the underside was hit, but if there is a collapsed exhaust, that will cause power loss and could continue not revving.

If possible, record the engine running so I can hear it.

Thanks Joe. Yes, the exhaust definitely sounds louder even at 1,000 RPM's. The rpm's fluctuate from 800-1,100 and sound louder than it should. I did not check the exhaust. I will do that tomorrow when my insurance company tows it down the mountain. I will be getting a scanner to get the codes too and will check those connectors. Thanks for the fast response. I just really hope it's not the transmission or something that will run me $2,000.00 + to fix.

In all honesty, if there wasn't a transmission issue before, then it's unlikely there is now.

Hey Joe. I took it to the mechanic after the it was towed down the mountain. It gave out throttle codes. The mechanic looked around and noticed the pedal sensor was disconnected from under the steering wheel. It was a easy and simple fix and truck is running great again. I really appreciate the help thank you very much.
