loud noise when starting up

i have a 1998 ford explore v-6 65,000 miles

when it is cold the vaules make a loud noise upon starting up maybe last about afew seconds then it
stop. could this be my oilpump going bad or need
lifters.

Sounds like lifters leakdown problem-shows up on initial start-up and disappears within a few secs.

An oil change won't hurt with a thicker oil or just lifters replacement.
