Idleing rough, air only blowing out of defrost

We have a 2002 Ford Windstar SE. It has roughly 80,000 miles on it and is a 4 cyl I believe.
We changed the spark plugs a few days ago and now the car is idleing very erratically. It will be normal then dip really low, then surge. Also the air conditioning is only blowing out of the defrost now no matter where the knob is turned to. Also now today, it is very noisy when cranking the wheel, and it almost sounds whiny and like you can hear wind blowing through the engine. We went to checker auto parts andd got an error code which was PO171 or PO174, I am not positive which. Could this have been caused by the spark plugs being changed? And what could the problem be and can we fix it ourselves.

There is a vacuum leak. The line for the vent control probably got broken when you were trying to get your hands in there to do the plugs. Look real close, the line is black plastic and very small

It's very easy to fix, just not that easy to find, with all the other noises from the engine it can be difficult to locate but once you do you'll know it and see what you have to repair. All auto parts stores carry vaccuum line and fittings and it should be very cheap.

There should be a diagram of the vacuum line routing on a sticker under the hood.

Trace your v line along firewall towards passenger side, thru fender well and under right inner fender. You probably won't have to go all that distance to find your break however, if no breake is found, trace V line to what resembles a black ball about the size of a softball. Check vacuum connections here.
