Heat/AC thermostat?

When changing the front temperature on the heat/AC controls on the dash panel, there has been a clicking sound coming from the dash and heat is not produced. The AC works fine, and there is generally no clicking noise if the controls are set for cool. I do have rear heating that does work, and there is no clicking generated when the rear temp controls are moved.
Is there a switch, fuse, or thermostat that needs to be replaced or is this a bigger problem?

Not sure of any automatic controls. There are no digital controls or programmable features available if that's what you mean.

The problem seems to be tied to moving the upper temp control slider that governs the front of the van. The lower one for the back of the van does not cause a reaction and functions properly.

I am having the same issues with my 2002 Ford Explorer.I would like to see if I can get some feedback from the original question as well. Sure would be nice to have heat!
