Steering has become hard?

I have a 98 Windstar with 120,000 miles. That has a problem with erratic steering. A while ago it started making a springy sound occasionally while driving but was steering fine. It also started shaking at about 50mph, We had the tires rotated and balanced and they are in good condition. Now the steering has become hard and seems to be slipping. The fluid is full and seems to be fine.

Your rack and pinion mounts aka brackets might be bad have it checked out asap its VERY dangerous also check your tie rods out this is also VERY dangerous check these asap. It also sounds like the rack or pump is going out.
