I have a whining engine noise that keeps pace with engine rpm. Someone mentioned it might be power steering fluid but that seems ok. Could this be a loose pully?

I just recently have a similiar problem with my 2003 Windstar. It turned out to be the Alternator going out. After a few weeks the whining noise stopped and a few days later the alternator quit working. At first I thought it was my battery and bought a new battery, but a few days later it died. Had the alternator replaced, recharged the battery and back in business. Hope this helps.
