I hooked up my OBD II to my 2003 Windstar and it seems to hang in the middle of the connection sequence ("XXX protocol") -- it goes along listing various protocoles, then hangs on "SAE J1850", I can wait for 5 minutes and still nothing. I've connected it to my 2001 F-150 and it works just find, so I don't think it's the reader. Any ideas on why this hangs?

FWIW, I also have an issue with randomly flickering interior and headlights if that helps,

Thanks!

The particlular OBD unit may be having problems reading the Windstar computer, even though it shouldn't. Most major parts stores will lend you a diagnostic unit to check the codes. You may want to try this to see if the one you are using is faulty.
On your flickering interior and head lamps. You may want to check the headlight switch and connections. I have a Windstar and had to replace this switch in mine. Hope this helps.
