2000 Ford Windstar head gasket

a mechanic said that my head gasket was shot but he does not work on that part of the car he refered me to another mechanic who does and he quoted be a ball park of $1200.

i'm going to look at it tommorow and if i take of the crankcase and find antifreeze mix with oil i've got a problem. should i then take it to another mechanic for a 2nd opinion?

head gasket failure is pretty simple to detect, how did the 1st mechanic find it? did he run compression check on cylinders?

I don't know because they said they don't even do that kind of work. So i took it to another mechanic i've used for the past 20 yrs and this time the car failed to get hot and they could find nothing wrong with it.

The cooling fan assembly and compressor have recently been replaced and as u know its hot in OK right now so i don't know if the problem took care of itself or what

overheating issues never go away on their own. easy way to check for head gasket failure is to remove radiator cap (WHEN COLD) then start vehicle. rev up engine and if coolant shoots up out of radiator cap opening then there is head gasket or head failure.
